KKPPC Club Activity for July, 2025 - Issue 2
Hello Folks,

The "mystery" photo activity at our June club meeting on June 11th was solved, as we wished our own Hometown Stranger a Happy 90th Birthday!

The meeting was followed by a trip around the corner to celebrate Dick's birthday with a birthday cake, conversation and laughter at Legends Pub across the street from the library.

Happy Birthday Dick!
Larry Kelly

3) Changes to club picnic being considered, BYOB format.
4) SC agreed to “Sympathy Gifts” Policy modification:  Instead of flowers/gift basket for deaths/serious illnesses, sympathy greeting cards will be sent.

Feedback from club members is requested on this policy change by 7/21. If no objections, the policy will be changed and updated in Guidelines and Procedures. Please send your comments to Larry or another SC member.

5) Professional Feedback Events for any member interested are being set up through Eric’s Zoom photo share sessions.

PFE sessions are entirely voluntary.  Zoom participation support will be provided, for those unfamiliar with using Zoom.  We plan on ecording the sessions with a link so that they may be viewed separately from the meeting, so you may send in photos for feedback and then review the feedback later, without participating in the Zoom session. A date for the first session will be coming after we work out technical details to be able to do this.  This will be a very worthwhile program for members wishing to improve their photography or desiring feedback on new methods or techniques they are experimenting with.

Happy Birthday Hometown Stranger!

June 4th Group Shoot - Sunset at Robert Moses Park

Members met next to the concession stand at the beach, then take the boardwalk leading to their destination, the Lighthouse, to capture the sunset.

The original Fire Island Lighthouse was built in 1826, and upgraded in 1858.  Its beacon can be seen more than 20 miles out to sea.

The group shoot was organized by Stephanie and LisaMarie, and also attended by Karolin, Gerta, Dorothy, Janina (and Roxy).
Selected Shots from the Robert Moses Group Shoot appear in the collage below.

Next Photo Share Meeting:

Monday July 7th, 2025, 7 PM

These are meetings in which members submit any two photos they want, for discussion and critique by the other attending members.

In the June Photo Share the format was changed slightly, with everyone discussing photos in random order, without knowing the identity of the photographer.  Because the photos were "anonymous" , it encouraged us to focus more on elements of the photo, rather than personal commentary behind the shots.  At the end of the session, photographers of each photo were identified and added their comments.

Outside Critiqueing of Member Photos

Hi, everyone!  I want to tell you about something the club is initiating to help you increase your photographic skills, as well as your enjoyment of photography.  In the future, the KPPC will be offering Professional Feedback Events, and I’d like to explain how it will work.

Each member will have the opportunity to submit 2 photos of their choosing to Eric Loehwing in much the same way that the Photo Share images are submitted.  This is completely voluntary.  The club will have an outside judge, that is, someone not affiliated with our club, look at each photo individually and, without knowing the name of the photographer, will comment on its good qualities.

Participants should submit what they think is their “best shot”, rather than a photo with many “flaws”, or one which they are not happy with (as is sometimes the case with Photo Share sessions, in which participants want corrective advice).. By submitting their best shot and learning what could be done to make it even better, we finetune the learning process.

The judge will suggest ways to improve a member's photo - possibly by changing the angle, increasing the contrast, cropping it a bit, or some other helpful hint that will help you create a better image.  No scores will be given.

While any judge’s suggestions are just that - suggestions - and are just one person’s opinion, you will probably find that you will begin to look at your photographic subjects with a new sense of awareness, and that you will start producing photos that have that WOW factor.
Well Wishes from the Club

We want all our members to know they are being thought of, and that we care about them, especially during difficult times in their lives. Whenever people are going through a stressful time due to illness, injury, death of a loved one, or any other tough situation, they may need a reminder that someone cares.

Please contact me by phone (631.265.0580) or email (chanind@sunysuffolk.edu) if you know of someone who might be encouraged by a note of cheer and support. I'll send out a card on behalf of the club.

Just for Fun:
