Larry welcomed a potential new member, Rob Megarwith, attending the meeting tonight to learn about the club.  Rob was "recruited" by Alan at the Bluff.  Everyone introduced ourselves and welcomed Rob.

Larry reviewed the schedule of upcoming KPPC meetings for the next 6 months:

  • Wednesday, July 23rd
  • Wednesday, August 27th
  • Wednesday, September 17th
  • Thursday, October 16th and
  • Wednesday, November 12th
Unfortunately, four of the upcoming meetings had to be shifted to Wednesdays due to conflicts at the library.

Kings Park Day is next Saturday, June 14th.  Dick will be there and email photos to Diane.  If anyone else has photos, send them to Diane Motherway for the Kings Park Chamber of Commerce, at diane@kingsparkli.com.
  1. The annual picnic will be held in August.  Discussions are underway regarding whether to make it "bring your own lunch", with beverages provided, or charging $10 pp and having the club supply a hero plus beverages.  Dick said he'd provide some kind of "hands On' display for members to experiment with (such as items for macro photography)

  2. The "strawberry moon" will be visible tonight for photo-taking.  Viewing was suggested at 9:30 at Provenzano's on Main St in Kings Park, r at the high school.  (Strawberry moon is the name given to the full moon that occurs in June, when strawberries were harvested by Native Americans in North America.)

  3. Larry reviewed several items from the 6/2 Steering Commission meeting. At this point, dues will not be raised, pending further discussion of our budget.

  4. Sympathy cards will be sent to members needing our support. (Dorothy is coordinating this)

  5. A lengthy discussion ensued about holding Professional Feedback Events, bringing in an outside judge to critique members photos if interested. The most convenient and least costly mode for this to take place is on Zoom, since we wouldn't need to bring the judge into our location.
Some objected to doing this via Zoom, since they don't have cameras or don't want to engage in Zoom. At this point, the library isn't set up technically to provide a "hybrid" mode, having some people Zoom in while others attend the session in person.

In the past, viewing of photos was held at R.J.O. Middle School in Kings Park, with the judge discussing results at the library.

One solution is to have those who don't Zoom submit their photos for review anyhow.  Those who want to Zoom, could Zoom.  The session would be recorded, so that those who didn't attend could view the judge's comments afterwards, with the session viewable on youTube or on the website.

  6. Alan suggested that in a future monthly meeting we break into small groups to share tips on using different camera equipment i.e. one group for Nikon, one for Canon, one for cellphones etc.

The date of our Bushwick Group Photo Shoot was changed from 6/22 to 6/29.

For those who want to participate, these are the directions:

  • Meet at the municipal lot adjacent to them Kings Park Library at 11am to carpool from there, or
  • Meet at the Park & Ride, 395 N. Service Road in Huntington at 11:30, or
  • Go directly to Bushwick, Brooklyn, meeting at 445 Troutman Street in Brooklyn at 12:30pm.
Bushwick has been a favorite group shoot of many members for years.  It's a showcase for fascinating graffiti and street art.

Dick asked whether anyone is interested in another group photo shoot, going to the 4th of July fireworks.  Contact him if interested, at emage4u@aol.com.

At the meeting's conclusion, Larry announced that our "mystery" photo activity was to celebrate Dick Chen's 90th birthday.

We went from the library to Legends Bar, to share a birthday cake & socialization.

Thanks to LisaMarie for organizing the birthday celebration.

Happy Birthday Hometown Stranger!
