KKPPC Club Activity for August, 2025 - Issue 3
Hello Folks,

Our annual club picnic will take place on Wednesday, August 27th at Nissequogue River State Park, from 3pm until 8pm.  The time was changed in order to accommodate more members including those who work.  It will also allow those who wish, to capture the sunset at Nissequogue.

Hometown Strantger will provide a display for us to again experiment with micro photography.

See more on the picnic in the article below.

All are invited!
Larry Kelly

Our annual picnic at Nissequogue River State Park will be held on Wednesday, August 27th, in the picnic area next to the football fields, starting at 3pm. The park is located at 799 Saint Johnland Road in Kings Park. It used to be the Kings Park Psychiatric Center.

The annual picnic is a great change to meet and mingle, have lunch, and learn new photography techniques. Past picnics have included a demonstration on drone photography, and exhibits to allow members to practice macro photography and other techniques.

Photo Shares are meetings in which members submit any two photos they want, for discussion and critique by the other attending members.

In the July Photo Share we again used the format of discussing photos in random order, without knowing the identity of the photographers.  Suggestions were offered on better cropping and focus. At the end of the session, the photographers were identified and got to add their comments.

Featured Album: July 2025 - Fireworks

See some amazing fireworks as the Featured Album on the KPPC Homepage

How do you shoot fireworks photos?  Use a low ISO (like 200), and a narrow aperture, (like f/11).  Use manual, not autofocus.  Set up a tripod if you can.  Listen to the fireworks so you can catch the best burst.  And shoot early, because the sky gets smokey.

If you'd like your photos to be showcased in an upcoming Featured Album, contact me.  Let others admire your work!

The featured album for August will be John Vosseller's Jones Beach Air Show.
2025 Library Exhibit

Our Club hosts what has become an annual exhibition of our photographic work at the Kings Park Branch of the Smithtown Library.  While our next exhibition is not scheduled until December, and will run for the entire month, advance planning is in order.

All members are encouraged to participate!

Now is the time to peruse your library for between 2-6 images you would like to present. There is no subject limitation to what you may present, and no size limit, except that images larger than 8” x 11” limit the number displayed.

Please note the following schedule:

Monday, November 10 - a workshop at the Kings Park Branch community Room from 6:30 - 8:30pm, to show members how to prepare their images for exhibition.

Saturday, November 29 - set-up of images at the Library for exhibition, between 2:00 - 4:30pm.  Please plan to be available between those hours if you are intending to exhibit.

For more information, please do not hesitate to contact me at: alanarlene@optonline.net

Additionally, I am available for printing images if you require.

This is a wonderful opportunity for us to make our presence known in the Kings Park Community.

Lets all get out and show the community our work!
Well Wishes from the Club

We want all our members to know they are being thought of, and that we care about them, especially during difficult times in their lives. Whenever people are going through a stressful time due to illness, injury, death of a loved one, or any other tough situation, they may need a reminder that someone cares.

Please contact me by phone (631.265.0580) or email (chanind@sunysuffolk.edu) if you know of someone who might be encouraged by a note of cheer and support. I'll send out a card on behalf of the club.

Just for Fun:
