_2026 February Theme: Beautiful View

Janina Krach | Published on 2/1/2026
This month's theme isn’t just about pointing the camera at a pretty landscape.  It's about creating something stunning and evocative to the viewer.

Suggestions:
  1. Start by choosing a vantage point that gives depth and perspective for your view, such as looking down a shoreline.

  2. Include a foreground element such as rocks or trees, to bring the viewer into the scene rather than leaving them standing outside it.

  3. Shoot in the early morning or late afternoon, for light that adds warmth, texture, and dimension.

  4. Use clouds, mist, or reflections to interact with the light.

  5. Use leading lines, natural curves, and the rule of thirds to guide the eye through your frame.

  6. Do careful cropping to remove distractions that weaken the impact. Sometimes stepping back to show scale, or stepping closer, to simplify, adds to the beauty of a view.
Shooting a beautiful view requires patience and presence. Wait for the right moment, - a break in the clouds, a passing bird, a subtle change in color, - and allow the photograph to capture not just what the place looks like, but how it feels to stand there and see it.
