Odds N' Ends at May Meeting

Eric Loehwing | Published on 5/15/2025
The May club meeting was held on the 15th at the Kings Park Library.  Larry announced that there would be a photo shoot in Bushwick on June 22nd, and the annual Kings Park Day would be on June 14th, an opportunity to shoot some photos for the KP Chamber of Commerce.  There was hope for a return to DUMBO, a neighborhood under the Manhattan Bridge.  Some discussion followed about communication with members who are not on Facebook, don't check the website, and don't attend the meetings.  There was both hope and skepticism regarding an emailed newsletter.  Alan encouraged members to update their photo albums on the website, and Eric implored all members to add a photo of themselves in the member directory.
The highlight of the evening was a presentation Art entitled "Odds & Ends".  Among various projects Art showed photos of flowers in which he had used a light box and combined multiple images into one in Photo Shop.  He showed his setup for creating water splashing into a wine glass with a flash to freeze the action.  AI (Artificial Intelligence) has come to Photo Shop, and Art  has experimented with it, seen below in the B&W castle and the trail in the woods.  The origin of the pinhole camera was explained, and we saw the version Art constructed himself.  His photos taken with his pinhole camera were amazingly well-focused.  Finally we saw Art's slideshow of flowers from two dogwoods in Art's front yard, which had been brought back to life through judicious pruning.
